From: Operations Director, Ventura Harbormaster:

Driftwood is sinking....s-l-o-w-l-y

"The large logs and trees that flowed into the ocean during the January
rains are starting to become waterlogged. All boaters should be extra
aware of the situation.

The Harbor Patrol Officers are reporting that not only are they floating
lower in the water, but they are remaining underwater for extended
periods of time if a wave pushes them under water.

We lost a prop last week under those exact circumstances. Despite having
two people on the boat who were aware of the problem and
looking for logs, we hit one that was floating just below the surface."

Dredging operations
The dredge operations in the Ventura Keys were curtailed this weekend due
to high winds. They will resume today and continue for a few days.
Boaters are advised to contact the dredge "Ryan W" for passing instructions
and exercise caution when transiting the area.

Scott Miller, Operations Manager, Ventura Port District
