We kicked off the second round of Coastal Navigation this weekend. We cranked up at 0930 and were ready to sail when the wind was right about 1400.
To the right, you see Dennis Dreith, holder of the Henry the Navigator Chair for Coastal Navigation at our little nav. college, welcoming the new class. (Dennis, BTW, is the first-ever graduate of ASA 105 from the SailTime Channel Islands Sailing School and our consultant on Mediterranean navigation and Vin du Provence.)
And at the left, Capt. Dan explains finer points of small scale charts to Bill Varie.
After class, most of the class headed out for a heavy WX sailing clinic, where Terry Hooper and Cesar Garcia practiced single-handed reefing while working within the constraints of jackline and tether on SailTime's Hunter 326.
