Local Notice to Mariners
Capt Dan's notices: for reasons unknown, the Coast Guard isn't paying much attention to our local waters and has failed to note the dredging operation in progress in Ventura Harbor. They were also extremely late in reporting the building shoal in Channel Islands.
We reported both to the proper authorities and got little more than a shrug. If you see hazards, pass them to the CG, but also pass them to me. (Or just to me and I'll pass them on, if you wish.)
Anyhow - watch out for the dredge Norris in the mouth of Ventura Harbor. Contact them on #16 if you are at all uncertain of how to pass safely. They've got numerous workboats coming and going, none of which look very maneuverable as well as the spoil line and several white buoys in the area.

Hi, we're sailors in New Mexico (of all things) who will be in Ventura this coming weekend to pick my wife's "new" (to her) boat, so we're hoping the WX will clear up and are interested in learning whether there's anything interesting happening on the water.

Pat -
The weather is liable to be pretty wild. We're in the midst of a winter storm and the long-range wx map shows a very strong low with associated cold front heading our way this weekend. If this goes as the chart indicates, there will also be a strong High in the desert.
This just might be a chance to practice operating in very heavy weather .... or catching up on sleep.
