Local Notice to Mariners

Dredging in Santa Barbar Harbor 2/28 to 4/15

Severe shoaling in mouth of Channel Islands Harbor (finally showed up in print this week). See link above for details. Last time we were in the area, four white with orange-marking buoys had been placed to mark the shoal.

Light List 3720 - Buoy #9 in Ventura is a Green Can (not black as it has been listed for a decade or so).

We also reported the missing Red Triangle on the South Jetty.

Dredging in Ventura: Watch out for the dredge Norris in Ventura Harbor. Spoil lines extend across the channel, but are visible in daytime and lighted at night with yellow flashers. Contact the dredge Norris on #16 if you are at all uncertain of how to pass safely. They've got numerous workboats coming and going, none of which look very maneuverable, nor does the crew spend much effort on lookout duty. Be ready to give them a sound signal when they show up on your side of the channel.

Local Notice to Mariners
Capt Dan's notices:for reasons unknown, the Coast Guard STILL isn't paying much attention to our local waters and has failed to note the dredging operation STILL in progress in Ventura Harbor. (Even though we called them right after the LNM were published last week). They were also extremely late in reporting the building shoal in Channel Islands, but they and the Harbor Patrol have stationed a watch during daylight hours.

We reported both to the proper authorities and got little more than a shrug. If you see hazards, pass them to the CG, but also pass them to me. (Or just to me and I'll pass them on, if you wish.)

Anyhow - watch out for the dredge Norris now out of mouth of Ventura Harbor.
